PERIODONTICS
Periodontitis as it is popularly called, evolves over a long period of time, but constantly and with devastating effects, from gingival retraction and discovering roots ending with tooth loss.
The early symptom of periodontal disease is simple gingival bleeding. The success of periodontal treatments at present depends on the sincere cooperation of the patient and their consistency in maintaining a strict oral hygiene.
Initial therapy - periodontal prophylaxis:
- Microbial plaque control
- Scaling and root facing
- Correction of defective restorations that harm marginal gums
- Strategic extractions or immobilization of recoverable periodontal teeth
- Orthodontic treatments
Periodontal surgery:
- Gingivectomy / gingivoplasty
- Subgingival Curettage
- Guided bone regeneration
- Treatment of bracket lesions (osteoplasty or odontoplasty); root amputation or hemisection
Radical therapeutic solutions:
Accentuated bone retraction in combination with patient refusal to cooperate or to keep a strict hygiene, all this leads to a more radical approach. The dentist will extract all non-recoverable teeth and will chose a type of prosthesis: dental implants, partial fixed or movable dentures or total prosthesis.
Periodontal Support Therapy:
If the therapy was successful, a continuous re-evaluation of the periodontal status is required, particularly in order to to identify areas where oral hygiene is poor.
